柱には「背割」といって、四面ある材料の表面のうち一面に故意に割りを入れることで他の三面に割れを発生させない技法で処理をしています。
写真はその背割を隠すためのカバーを制作している様子です。
材料が小さく、危険なので「フェザーボード」という治具で安全に量産加工していきます。
Columns
The columns are treated with a technique called "back splitting," which involves intentionally splitting one of the four surfaces of the material to prevent cracks from appearing on the other three.
The photo shows the process of creating a cover to hide the back split.
The material is small and dangerous, so we safely mass-produce it using a jig called a "featherboard."
