Label tags
After the roofing materials are removed, "label tags" are attached to the structural materials according to the sketches called "Yachozu".
This is in preparation for re-installing the same materials in the same place when relocating.
It seems that "relocation" was common in the past. Valuable structural materials that were well-cared for and well-dried were considered important assets that continued to have value by the people of that time.
In some cases, there are records of buildings that were relocated not just once, but twice or even three times.
The red-fleshed, large-section Japanese pine is one of the precious woods that has disappeared from Japan.
I don't think we'll ever see materials of this size and scale again on a new building site.
