黒肌を纏った古材
長い年月の間炊きしめられた「くど」により、古材は黒々とした鉄をも思わせる硬質な様相を纏っています。
昔はこの梁にこびりついた煤（すす）をこそぐ職方がいたそうです。
集められた煤は書道の墨や顔料に利用されていたようです。
Antique wood with a black surface
The wood has been simmered in kudo for many years, giving it a hard, black appearance reminiscent of iron.
It seems that in the past, craftsmen would scrape off the soot that had stuck to the beams.
The collected soot was used to make ink and pigments for calligraphy.
